Many people have ferrets as their pets, ad even more are considering getting one. Ferrets are fun loving and playful, and can make a wonderful addition to your home! What About Ferret Odor?Don't worry, the reputation that follows pet ferrets for being smelly is entirely undeserved. Yes, ferrets do have a distinct musky odor, but its far from being overpowering or offensive. In addition to providing your new fuzzy friend necessary vaccinations you will probably get him spayed or neutered, which controls the odor. Ferret DietYes, you heard correctly, a part of proper ferret care is providing you pet with specialized diet. You see, ferrets just can not digest most foods, so ferret’s nutrition should be made mostly of meat based proteins and fats. Ferrets are carnivore, which mean they eat mostly meat. If you feed you ferret prepared foods from pet shops or other pet food (like cat food), make sure you buy high quality cat or ferret food which contains at least 20% of fat and 40% meat based protein. Stay away from cat food that has high level of vegetable protein and fiber, that kind is not good for your ferret! Ferret CagesFerrets like to sleep: an average, healthy ferret will sleep up to 20 hours a day! Mind you, it will probably be in 3-6 hours blocks, so a part of proper ferret care is a nice, spacy ferret cage. There are many hig quality ferret cages on the market today, choose whicever brand you like or can afford, just make sure you ferret cage has solid flooring, liter pad and ferret bed. A ferret hammock or something like a shoebox with your old T-shirt can make your ferret happy, also!
